The Central Library in Copley Square is the flagship of the Boston Public Library system, occupying a full city block in Boston's Back Bay at 700 Boylston Street. It comprises the landmark McKim Building (1895, a National Historic Landmark) with its Bates Hall reading room and murals by Sargent, Abbey, and Puvis de Chavannes, and the Philip Johnson-designed Boylston Street Building (1972, renovated 2016).
