Founded in 1976 in the heart of Manhattan's Chinatown, Eastern Bookstore is one of the largest single-location Chinese-language bookstores in the United States, with roughly 7,000 square feet of retail space. It carries simplified and traditional Chinese titles from Mainland China, Hong Kong and Taiwan across social sciences, literature, Chinese-language learning, wellness, children's books, travel, history and art, plus calligraphy supplies, seal carving, paintings and cultural goods. It runs regular calligraphy, Chinese painting and Tai Chi classes and an on-site Oriental Gallery, and celebrates its 50th anniversary in 2026.
